Interview with Samantha Ravndahl You Tuber & Founder of Batalash <3

Hi Everyone & welcome ! ❤

As most of you know YouTube is full of makeup lovers, makeup junkies and MUAs; beginners to professional Guru’s. In my experience of browsing you tube for years I find there are a limited selection of beauty/makeup you tubers who are not only talented and creative, but whom actually interact with their audience and do things slowly step by step so it’s easy for us to attempt at home ourselves. Yes it’s wonderful to sit and watch videos of how to create certain makeup looks and take tips from them but it’s just as important for me to subscribe to someone who is down to earth, friendly and is simply not making videos just to get the likes but genuinely wants to help us girls in becoming better with our makeup application, help us in choosing the right products and assist with advice for our beauty regime.

IMG_20140408_152313 Let me introduce you to my FAVOURITE stunninggg chica on You Tube! Founder of BATALASH, a beauty blogger AND a makeup artist from Canada, Samantha Ravndahl. Batalash was created by Samantha and her friend Shaelin Darian who are dedicated to high quality content consisting of videos, picture tutorials and/or makeup inspiration. “We don’t want to just teach you how to do makeup: we want to teach you how to feel confident rocking your personality and look.

I came across Samantha in February after seeing her “Stupid Comments” video tell us viewers about some of the immature comments that she receives and I fell in love! Haha! I immediately loved her personality before seeing any of her video’s and loved how she was so real and straight to the point and original, not like many of the “omggg” unoriginal You Tubers we see today. Sorry to say but just being honest, haven’t you seen the groups of friend You Tubers who all do the same videos each on different weeks?!?!

From this point I subscribed immediately subscribed to Samantha and began trolling watching all her videos. My favourite video would have to be the “MUFE Flash Palette Tutorial” where she uses this beautiful bright palette to apply a full face of makeup. I thought I had makeup knowledge but to see her mix certain colours to make a foundation shade and concealer I was lost for words. I really admire Samantha’s work and her personality and was so speechless when she replied to my message requesting an interview so here’s your chance to get to know this gorgeous talented girl !! ❤

1. How old were you when you started playing with makeup and what got you into it?

I was in grade ten when I really started playing around with makeup – I’ve always been interested in art and painting, so I think it was just a natural progression.

IMG_20140408_152213 2. Did you attend a makeup/beauty academy?

I did! I went to John Casablancas Institute in Vancouver, BC.

3. What made you want to start a You Tube Channel?

Honestly, because people asked me to. I was never really wanting to do the YouTube thing, but now that I am I enjoy it. It’s a new way to interact with people.

4. What would be your “go to” every day makeup look?

Don’t have one! No one should! There’s so many colours and textures out there, who knows when you’ll stumble on a new fave. I post makeup every day, so I don’t want to do the same look all the time and put people to sleep with it.

10173803_224367524429345_962199389_n 5. What is your favourite foundation & Bronzer & why?

Always changing. Right now, I’m hooked on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Concealer as foundation, because it doesn’t settle into my smile lines and it has awesome coverage and a semi-dewy finish. My fave. as for bronzer, I’ve been using the Anastasia Contour Kit!

6. What are your top 5 beauty must haves?

MAC Complete Comfort Creme or Philosophy Hope in a Jar. I love the fresh face masks from Lush, they are awesome. Everyone needs a good coral lipstick, I’m digging MAC Style Surge right now. Anastasia Dipbrow is life changing. MAC Warm Soul blush will never be replaced for me either!

1970423_216242705241827_91847535_n 7. Do you receive much negativity and how do you deal with it?

Man, everyone receives negativity. I deal with it by not giving a fuck – the thing is, I’m being myself. So the people that like me, actually like me for me, not someone I’m pretending to be. That is an amazing feeling, and for every negative comment there’s 100 positive ones. There is so much love in this world, it’s unbelievable. If some comments in particular really get me down, I just make a joke about it so we can all laugh it off.

8. What’s your best makeup trick?

Using a clean mascara wand to gently “scrape” off mascara that transferred onto your lid after it dries. It takes off the mascara and leaves your eyeshadow intact. No man can satisfy me quite like this does.

1173720_195655067300591_720043176_n 9. Who are your biggest beauty/makeup inspirations?

I love Roshar and Alex Box!

10. When you aren’t making videos what do you like to do?

90% of the time, I’m working. Whether it be making/editing videos, taking pictures for Instagram, writing on the blog, or just answering emails and comments. Working takes up a lot of my time. But when I can, I like to play World of Warcraft with my homies, or go get wings and deep fried pickles for sustenance.

11. You have so many fans worldwide, including Australia. Would you consider coming to Australia to visit one day?

I’d love to come to Australia! It’s just a pricy plane ticket. But one day!

1524005_10151805068132077_1766308576_o 12. What advice would you give to aspiring makeup artists?

Be yourself, and work your ass off. Never think you have nothing left to learn. Take many opportunities, but don’t sell yourself short either. Spread self love, because you have the perfect opportunity to every time a client sits in your chair.

13. What are your goals for the rest of 2014?

My main priority is to not have to go back to work. I’m working for myself full time right now, so I just hope to keep that up!

14. Where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years time?

Who knows! I like to roll with it. You never know what opportunities will present themselves, so I’m open to life. Maybe a makeup line, maybe become a makeup teacher, whatever happens is sure to be an awesome experience. I just hope to be happy the whole way through.
